World Environment Day has been celebrated as an annual event on June 5 every year to raise the importance of the healthy and green environment in human lives and solve the issues of the environment by implementing positive environmental actions. To recognize the importance of this special day, NSS BIT Mesra, in association with Institute Innovation Council (IIC) and Environment Protection and Awareness Club (EPAC) organized a series of events for World Environment Day on 5th June, 2022. The events which took place were :

Cleanliness Drive

A cleanliness drive was also organized wherein a group of students went and cleaned up a particular area with that unit being led by the NSS executives. Dustbins and broomsticks were procured from the NSS office and distributed. The cleaning drive was initiated from Hostel No. 6 near the Post Office and finally culminated at 9:00 A.M. with the equal efforts of NSS executives, volunteers and fellow students.

Campaign

Posters raising awareness about Environment Day were distributed to students, who were made aware about the prevailing threats to the environment due to rising pollution levels and climate change and its impact on the planet. Students went door to door, teaching residents how to properly dispose hazardous wastes such as batteries, sanitary pads, and razor blades.

Plantation Drive

A plantation drive was also organized in the premises wherein 50 plants were planted behind Hostel No. 9 in order to nourish the soil and environment. With the necessary equipment and water sources in place, and active participation from executives, students, and volunteers alike, the plantation drive was able to achieve its goal instilling the importance of environment preservation through devout teamwork.

Webinar

An insightful webinar was also organized by Dr. Jit Mukherjee and Dr. Rajat Kumar on the same day from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Google Meet platform wherein famous ecologist and environmentalist, Dr. Raju Kumar had been invited as the guest speaker. The webinar saw an active participation of more than 100+ volunteers.

Thus, all the events pertaining to Environment Day were carried out successfully under the guidance and supervision of the Dean and Chairperson of NSS Dr. Anand Kumar Sinha, Associate Dean Dr. K. Shridhar Patnaik, Program Coordinator NSS Dr. O.P. Pandey, Dr. Priyank Kumar, Dr. Praveen Srivastava, Dr. Sameer and Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. Abhijeet Nag, Dr. Sanjeet Kumar and Dr. Prabjot Kaur. Thus, the event was conducted successfully witnessing an enthusiastic participation of the volunteers and executives, and the revered presence of our faculty members and dignitaries.
